I'm going to agree with TM here. neither fit the genre . but with that said, throw back have the better joint and it wasn't Even close plus his drums at least felt more similar to trap... Bobby, I gave you some pretty low scores because the mix was not good, sound selection needs to be upgraded immediately, and the arrangement was lacking. now the scores are not hate voting, it's because I feel that's where you are right now. but it's okay though because we all have to start from somewhere. don't take any of what I said to heart. just try to use it to improve yourself. that's literally how you're going to grow here. you're going to bump your head a few times in these battles but losing to guys like throw will only make you better in the long run.

The mix wasn't that good when I went back and listened to it after it was uploaded. So John P I agree with you on that. I'm not taking anything to heart. If I did I wouldn't create anything. All music is subjective. I'm not focused on everyone's opinions. I do listen and learn from others to improve and get better though. I don't expect every beat to be good or great. I like to "experiment" and and try new things. If you never step out the box you can't expand.

What's your definition of trap? And why do you feel my beat isn't trap?

  • BobbyBarz BobbyBarz Producer

Exactly. Just because other people want to stay in a box and create specific genres doesn't mean I want to. It's not an excuse to create "bs". It's removing a limitation and allowing me to create whatever I want. I literally "experiment" and create what comes to me. Y'all follow formulas and genre guidelines. I don't. I asked to add this genre because I know my beats aren't trap. I do like to use trap elements though so to me it's "Experimental Trap". I know you probably not a fan of the beat and it's cool but if you had to put it into a genre what would it be? πŸ€”

That won't help me. I've listened to numerous of "trap" beats . I want to know what makes a trap beat a trap beat. There's many subgenres of "trap" that people have created.

TM I'm not trying to be disrespectful. I know I still have a lot to learn but I'm asking for help right now. You feel my beat isn't Trap. I understand and I agree. That's why I label my beats as Experimental Trap because I know Trap is a specific genre. You're saying my beats don't have any trap elements when I thought it did. So I'm asking you what makes a Trap beat a Trap beat. Your response was go listen to your beats. That's not going to work for me because of how my mind processes things. I view it like if you asked me how to make a sandwich and I just said look at mine. I need to know the ingredients so I can perfect my own sound. I'm not trying to create beats that sound like yours. My goal is to experiment and and include trap elements. If I can understand the elements better and know what actually makes a Trap beat a Trap beat then I will be able to improve my sound and fit more into what I call "Experimental Trap". Also I'm not here to win battles. I'm here to challenge myself and get better as a producer.

thats a bet fam i got you... ok well lets start with your drums. the energy needs to be hard and have a good bounce to them.. and you need to find some good 808 one shot sounds.. the drums will make it a trap feel if you are using trap drums sounds.. thats why i said to listen to some of my beats so you could get a better idea of what im talking about.. you will have to practice until you learn your own bounce.. ive been doing this for 22 yrs now. and im still learning everyday and perfecting my skills and craft..

that beat you did for this battle has no low end. no bass line that i could hear. except that one lil bass drop i heard that did not fit. if you had a dope kick and 808 and snares in that it would probably had a better chance of winning this battle.. but now you know what not to do next time lol and what too do.. if you have anymore questions just message me broski and i got you fam

Okay thanks for taking the time to explain a little more. I will check out some of your beats as well. 22 years is a long time. Where do you usually get your one shots from? Just curious. When I went back to hear this beat I thought it sounded bad but I still decided to put it in a battle anyways. I felt someone would most likely provide feedback that would help me grow.

For this particular beat I was trying to limit the low end and replace it with something else. That ended up not fitting how I wanted it and throwing off the balance. This beat helped me learn what not to do even with pushing boundaries. The fact that most of the producers on the platform heard what I heard showed me that we have similar ears even though we have different setups. I also feel some people aren't hearing beats correctly especially when it comes to low end. I use a subwoofer when creating beats. 5in studio monitors, head phones, and phones are not capable of reproducing all of those lower frequencies.

I understand how you can see this specific beat not being "experimental trap" but my other beats are different.
